General
Background
I was born in Southern Ontario
where my family was in the tobacco farming business. My secondary education
with an emphasis on domestic science was completed at St. Joseph's convent
in London, Ontario. After this I finished the provincial nursing (RNA)
program. I am married with children and five grandchildren. I have lived
in the Ottawa area since the 1970's. I enjoy theatre, sports, cottage
life and traveling.
My
Quilting Background
My early interest in sewing began for very practical reasons as I made
clothing for myself and my children. I started quilting in 1980 and took
many courses in the varied quilting techniques. In 1985 I started offering
my services for commissioned works and began to exhibit my quilts. In
1990 I commenced teaching and I consider myself and enthusiastic teacher
since I take great pleasure in sharing in the sense of accomplishment
of all my students.
My experience in teaching includes local quilt shops, regional quilting
guilds, community workshops, group shows and studios, as well as private
lessons and consultations in my own studio. My first quilt pattern was
published in 1998 and a number of my patterns are now retailed throughout
North America.
My extensive practical and academic experience has permitted me to develop
expertise in the following quilting techniques: hand applique, piecing,
foundation piecing, colour wash, sashiko and landscapes.
While I enjoy teaching at all levels of quilting, newcomers to the wonderful
world of quilting are especially welcome.
